The chart given above summarizes the overall sales of digital games from 2000 to 2006. This also provides a detailed representation of the sales across various kinds of digital games throughout the time from 2000 to 2006.

Based on the information depicted in the graph, handheld games can be considered the market leader based on annual global sales. Further, the sales are non-existent for mobile phone games and online games in the year of 2000. However, both mobile phone games, and online games have picked up the phase in the following years up to 2006. Console game sales have been steadily declining.

Online gaming has begun in 2001 with global sales below $1b. It has slightly increased in 2002. However, since 2003, until up to 2006, the sales of online games have rapidly increased surpassing the sales of mobile phone games, which also has followed a similar pattern in terms of sales. In the year of 2006, mobile phone games have generated a total of approximately $6 billion in sales revenue while online games have done about $8 billion.

While the sales have skyrocketed for the categories of mobile phone games, and online games, the sales of console games have decreased. In 2000, the overall sales for console games are about $6 billion, which has dropped to 50% by 2006. Despite this decline, it is worth mentioning that sales for handheld games have grown in an unprecedented manner from 2000 to 2006. Even with increased sales for online and mobile games in 2006, handheld games sales have sales as twice as mobile and online games. Considering the entire sales, console games seem to be the least preferred by consumers, and online games seemed to have gained the highest preference considering the degree of increment.
